Three birthday page designs laid side by side

Search for "birthday website maker" and you will find a handful of tools that sound almost identical: add photos, add a message, add music, share a link. They are not identical. Some are built around games and animation, some around templates, some around being free for a day, and some around a single letter.

We make one of these tools, Birthday Website Maker, so treat this comparison with that in mind. To keep it fair, we stuck to what each product says about itself on its own public pages, and we say plainly where another tool does something we do not.

How we compared them

  • Date checked: All product details below come from each tool's public website as we read it on October 11, 2026. Features and prices change, so check before you buy.
  • What we read: Homepages, pricing pages and FAQ sections. We did not log in to paid tiers or complete purchases, so anything that only appears after payment is not covered.
  • What we looked for: What the recipient experiences, what you can put on the page, whether there is a countdown or password, how sharing works, and how pricing is structured.

We also included one design tool (Canva) because many people start there, and we mention one party tool at the end because people often search for the wrong category.

1. 2luv: best for an interactive, game-like surprise

2luv positions its birthday gift as a little party on a phone. According to its birthday page, the "Birthday Party" option opens with a spinning 3D cake with your photos orbiting as polaroids, candles the birthday person blows out through the phone's microphone (the page says nothing is recorded), a claw machine holding reasons you love them, a jar of wishes, a photo booth, a map of places, a song on a record player, and a finale with balloons showing their age.

There is also a calmer "Birthday Letter" with a countdown, cake, confetti, photos, music and places, plus an optional password, and a "Letter + eCards" bundle. You can build the whole gift and watch the preview for free; a one-time payment in your local currency unlocks it, with a link and a QR code. The FAQ says you can edit photos, text and moments after unlocking and the link stays the same, and that the countdown appears during the 60 days before the birthday.

Good fit if you want lots of interactive moments and a countdown that holds the surprise until midnight in their time zone.

Keep in mind that it is a richer experience with more pieces to fill in. On the day we checked, the price did not load on either the birthday or pricing page, so confirm it in the checkout. We compare it with our tool in more detail on the 2luv alternative page.

2. hbday.to: best for multi-page template sites

hbday.to is built around templates. You choose a design (and optionally an interactive overlay video), then customize multiple pages with your own images, text and colors. Each site gets a personalized URL in the form hbday.to/yourname and a custom password.

On October 11, 2026, the Standard plan was listed at 5.99 EUR per site, shown reduced from 9.99 EUR. It lists publication for one year, and its terms say unpublished sites are deleted after 90 days and published ones stored for a year, with the option to extend by repurchasing. You can edit after publishing by logging in. There is also a Custom service where their team designs a bespoke site, with pricing on request.

Good fit if you want several pages, more design control, and password protection.

Keep in mind that more pages means more to fill. Their pages note that the site is not visible until you publish and pay.

3. WishHappyBday: best free option for a one-day page

WishHappyBday offers a standard birthday page that is free after you log in. It holds three photos, a message under each photo, a headline, and music from its own tracks, chosen from three motion styles (Love, Friend, Family). Guests can open it without an account and can leave a wish.

The page is deliberately temporary: it stays public for 24 hours after it starts, and you can choose the start time before publishing. Premium costs 1 USD once per celebration and adds an interactive gift journey (unwrap a gift, tap the candles, cut the cake) and lets the creator download the whole celebration as an MP4 video during the 24-hour window. A paid "Birthday Story" adds a PDF memory book; we did not check its price.

Good fit if you want something free for the day itself, especially if a group of friends will add wishes, or if you want a video file to keep.

Keep in mind the 24-hour window and the three-photo structure. If you want them to reread it next month, this is not designed for that.

4. Canva: best if you really want a designed card

Canva is not a birthday website maker, but it is where many people start. Its free birthday card maker offers templates and a drag-and-drop editor. You can download a card as JPEG, PNG or PDF, share it online through social media or email, or order prints through Canva Print. Some of its AI editing tools are marked Pro.

Good fit if you want a beautiful design, something printable, or a card you can post.

Keep in mind that a card is a picture with words on it. If you want a long letter, several photos and a song in one link, a birthday page fits better. More in our Canva birthday card alternative comparison.

5. Birthday Website Maker: best for a letter-first page

This is our tool, so here are just the facts. You add their name, write a letter (up to 5,000 characters), add up to 10 photos (HEIC included), add any of eight surprises (claw machine of reasons, storybook, wish jar, map, calendar and more), paste one song link, and choose whether the page opens with a birthday cake showing their age and a countdown. A live phone preview updates as you type. Saving gives you a link and a QR code.

Building and previewing is free and does not need an account. To let the recipient see the full letter, photos and song, you unlock that one page with a one-time payment. Before that, they see the cover and a short preview of the first lines of the letter. It is a one-time $5.99 for the full page.

Good fit if your gift is mostly about what you want to say, with a handful of photos and one meaningful song, and you want it done in an evening.

What it does not do: there is no scheduled sending and no AI writing. The cake cover can show their age and a countdown, and you can add an optional password. The claw machine, wish jar and storybook are light scenes, not 3D games, and there is no microphone candle blow or photo booth. A direct audio file shows a player you press; other song links open as a button. If you want a cinematic midnight countdown, 2luv is the closer fit. If you want several template pages, hbday.to is.

A note on party invitation tools

If your real goal is getting people to a party, none of the above is the right category. Party tools such as Partiful (which its site describes as free with no paywalls) focus on invitations, guest lists and RSVPs. A birthday website is a gift for one person, not an event page.

How to choose

  • You want a cinematic midnight countdown and 3D scenes: 2luv.
  • You want several template pages: hbday.to.
  • You want free, for the day, maybe with friends' wishes: WishHappyBday.
  • You want a printable or postable design: Canva.
  • You want a letter, up to 10 photos, one song, a cake countdown and an optional password on one page: the birthday website maker we build.

Whatever you pick, the part that matters most is not the tool. It is the specific memories you write down and the photos you choose. If budget is the deciding factor, our guide to free birthday website options breaks down what free actually gets you.

The bottom line

The best birthday website maker is the one that matches the gift you have in mind. Interactive and game-like, template-heavy, free for a day, a printable design, or a quiet letter with photos and a song. Try a free preview in whichever tool fits, read it on your phone, and choose the one that sounds most like you.

If a letter-first page sounds right, start one now. Add their name and your first paragraph, and see how it reads on a phone before you decide anything.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best birthday website maker?

It depends on what you want. For the most interactive, game-like experience with a countdown, 2luv stands out. For multi-page template sites with password protection, hbday.to. For a free one-day page, WishHappyBday. For a simple page centered on a long letter, photos and one song, Birthday Website Maker.

Is there a completely free birthday website maker?

WishHappyBday's standard page was free after login when we checked on October 11, 2026, with three photos and a 24-hour public window. Most other tools let you build and preview for free and charge to share the full page.

Which birthday website makers have a countdown or scheduled start?

Per their public pages on October 11, 2026, 2luv shows a countdown to midnight in the recipient's time zone, and WishHappyBday lets you choose a start time before publishing. Birthday Website Maker shows their age and a countdown to the birthday on the cake cover. It does not send the link or open the page on a schedule — you send it yourself.

Which ones offer password protection?

hbday.to lists custom password protection, and 2luv lists an optional password on its Birthday Letter. Birthday Website Maker also has an optional password of 8 or more characters: it can lock the whole gift, or lock editing only. If you do not set one, anyone with the link can open the page.

How did you compare these tools?

We read each product's public homepage, pricing and FAQ pages on October 11, 2026. We did not buy paid plans, so anything only visible after payment is not covered. Prices and features change, so check each site before you decide.
